about me
Hi, I’m Becca, originally from Derbyshire and now proud to live in the beautiful countryside of Northumberland. I’ve been a ceramic artist for just under two years now. I produce my work at a gorgeous studio in Cumbria.
I started my pottery journey at Nottingham Ceramic School in 2024. After a couple of 6 week courses I became very much obsessed! At the start of 2025 I spontaneously moved up to Northumberland with my partner. I was in desperate need to continue feeding my obsession with ceramics. After a long few months of trying to find a studio up in the North I finally got a spot at Upland Clay over in Cumbria. It’s quite the journey but the studio is definitely worth it! Being surrounded by such a friendly group of makers, I settled in extremely quickly. Before I knew it I was spending almost all of my free time at the studio. I knew at this point I needed to try to take this further than just being a fun hobby. It became all I could
think about and consumed most of my life. It’s fair to say I was very much addicted (and still am.)
After being a member at the studio for a few months I got offered a teaching position YAYYYY!!! I literally could not believe my luck. I was slowly starting to make progress in achieving my dream of becoming a full-time potter. Initially I worked a couple days a week but in October I quit my other job and threw myself into all things pottery. I picked up more hours as a studio tech and in any spare time I’ve been working on my own practice.
The past few months I’ve been honing my skills and developing my style. I’m still exploring different techniques, experimenting to find what I enjoy making most. I’m starting to discover who I am as a potter and I can’t wait to continue sharing my work and journey with you all!
2024
This is the first pot I made that I was extremely proud of. I made this in one of the initial 6 week courses I took part in at Nottingham Ceramic School.
One of the first mugs I made and I was already experimenting with textures. This was the start of my love for taking photos of my pottery outside in nature.
Here’s me testing out my mug. It worked.. phew!!
2025
The start of my journey at Upland Clay pottery studio in Cumbria! I had a lot more freedom to experiment with what I made on the wheel.
I began practicing throwing with larger amounts of clay. I started to absolutely love challenging myself to see just how big I could make my pots.
I also tried throwing much smaller pots on the wheel. Here are a bunch of miniature vases I threw off the hump. Tiny handles became a running theme in my work for a period of time.
outside of the studio
When I’m not at the studio I love hiking and exploring the countryside with my partner, mostly the Lake District and Northumberland, occasionally Scotland. We love to camp in our van and try to get away in it as often as possible. I’m lucky enough to even be able to camp at the pottery studio that I work at! (ideal for late night throwing sessions)
I draw a lot of inspiration from the outdoors for my ceramics. When I’m out exploring I take notes of locations that I think would be nice to display my pottery. This has become a recurring theme - exploring Northumberland with my pots. I’m very proud of where I live and take pleasure in showcasing it’s beauty with my photography. I like to exhibit my work alongside the local landscapes as I feel as though they enhance each others beauty perfectly.
Other than exploring, you’ll often find me at a local coffee shop ordering myself an iced oat latte with caramel. A staple in my diet and everyday routine. I also love to go bouldering, although I haven’t spent quite as much time at the wall in recent months as ceramics has taken over almost all of my free time.
Another fun fact about me is I buy and sell clothes on Vinted. I do this here and there whenever I get the chance but it has almost become like a second job to me. I view this as another form of income to help support my dream of becoming a full-time potter.
